A natural tooth consists of an outer layer of white enamel and a supporting layer of yellow dentin underneath. An artificial dental crown, often called a “cap,” is used to replace damaged or missing tooth structure with materials like porcelain or metal, such as gold. Dental crowns are designed to restore the function, strength, and appearance of your tooth.

Factors like teeth grinding, improper bites, age, fillings, and tooth decay can all contribute to the wearing down, cracking, or breaking of your teeth. Dental crowns cover the entire visible surface of a damaged tooth, offering added strength, stability, and durability.
 

Types of Dental Crowns

1. Porcelain Crowns
   Porcelain crowns are the most aesthetically pleasing option and are typically used for front teeth where strength is less of a concern. These crowns are highly natural-looking and blend well with the surrounding teeth.
    

2. Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Crowns (PFM)
   Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns provide a natural look with the added strength of a metal substructure. These crowns require an opaque layer beneath the porcelain, which can make it difficult to replicate the natural translucency of teeth. Over time, as the gums recede, a dark line near the edge of the crown may become visible.
    

3. Metal Crowns (Gold)
   Gold crowns are ideal when aesthetics are not a priority, offering the most durability and a precise fit. These crowns are virtually indestructible, unlike porcelain crowns, which can be chipped or cracked under stress.

치아 크라운의 종류

1. 포세린 크라운
   포세린 크라운은 가장 미적이고 자연스러운 외관을 제공하며, 일반적으로 앞니에 사용됩니다. 이 크라운은 강도가 상대적으로 덜 중요한 경우에 사용됩니다.

2. 포세린-금속 복합 크라운 (PFM)
   포세린-금속 복합 크라운은 자연스러운 외관과 함께 금속 기초 구조로 강도를 제공합니다. 이 크라운은 포세린 아래에 불투명한 층이 필요하여 자연 치아의 투명도를 완벽하게 복제하기 어려울 수 있습니다. 시간이 지나면서 잇몸이 후퇴할 경우, 크라운의 가장자리 근처에 어두운 선이 보일 수 있습니다.

3. 금속 크라운 (금 크라운)
   미적인 부분이 덜 중요하다면 금 크라운은 매우 내구성이 뛰어나고 정밀한 맞춤을 제공합니다. 금 크라운은 거의 파손되지 않으며, 포세린 크라운은 스트레스에 의해 깨질 수 있는 반면, 금 크라운은 그럴 가능성이 적습니다.
