A denture is a removable dental appliance used to replace missing teeth and surrounding gum tissue. Dentures help restore your ability to eat, speak, and smile comfortably, while also supporting the facial structure to prevent the sunken appearance caused by tooth loss. Dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth and can be made from acrylic, metal, or a combination of both materials.

Tooth loss can occur due to decay, gum disease, injury, or aging. Dentures are a functional and affordable solution that help restore both appearance and oral function. There are two main types of dentures:

Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth in either the upper or lower jaw—or both—are missing. These dentures sit directly on the gums and are typically made of acrylic.

There are two types of complete dentures:

• Conventional complete dentures are made after any remaining teeth are removed and the gum tissue has healed.

• Immediate complete dentures are made in advance and placed right after tooth extraction. They may need to be relined or adjusted as the gums heal and shrink.

Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth still remain. They consist of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored acrylic base, often supported by a metal framework. Partial dentures are held in place by clasps that anchor to existing teeth or by precision attachments.
Partial dentures not only fill in the gaps left by missing teeth but also help prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of position.

Whether complete or partial, dentures are designed to improve chewing ability, support facial structure, and enhance speech and confidence. With proper care and regular dental checkups, dentures can last for several years and provide excellent results for patients with missing teeth.

틀니(의치)는 상실된 치아와 주변 잇몸 조직을 대체하기 위해 사용하는 탈착식 보철 장치입니다. 틀니는 음식을 씹고, 말하고, 자연스럽게 웃을 수 있는 기능을 회복시켜 줄 뿐만 아니라, 치아 상실로 인해 생기는 얼굴의 꺼진 형태를 방지하는 데에도 도움을 줍니다. 틀니는 환자의 입에 맞게 맞춤 제작되며, 아크릴, 금속 또는 이 둘을 조합한 재료로 만들어질 수 있습니다.
 

치아 상실은 충치, 잇몸 질환, 외상 또는 노화 등의 원인으로 발생할 수 있습니다. 틀니는 이러한 치아 상실에 대해 기능적이면서도 경제적인 해결책으로, 외형뿐만 아니라 구강 기능 회복에도 효과적입니다.
틀니는 크게 두 가지 유형으로 나뉩니다:

전체 틀니

전체 틀니는 상악(위턱), 하악(아래턱) 또는 양쪽 모두의 치아가 모두 없는 경우에 사용됩니다. 이 틀니는 잇몸 위에 직접 올려 착용하며, 일반적으로 아크릴 재질로 제작됩니다.

전체 틀니에는 두 가지 유형이 있습니다.

• 일반 전체 틀니는 남아 있는 치아를 발치하고 잇몸이 치유된 후 제작됩니다. 

• 즉시 전체 틀니는 발치 직후에 바로 착용할 수 있도록 미리 제작되며, 잇몸이 회복되면서 형태 변화가 생길 수 있기 때문에 후속 조정이나 재적합이 필요할 수 있습니다.

부분 틀니

부분 틀니는 일부 자연 치아가 남아 있는 경우에 사용됩니다. 잃어버린 치아가 있던 부위에 인공 치아를 잇몸 색상의 아크릴 베이스에 부착하고, 금속 프레임이 이를 지지합니다. 부분 틀니는 일반적으로 남아 있는 자연 치아에 고리(클라스프)나 정밀 부착 장치를 이용해 고정됩니다. 부분 틀니는 결손 부위를 채워주는 것 외에도, 남아 있는 치아가 빈 공간 쪽으로 움직이지 않도록 방지하는 역할을 합니다.

전체든 부분이든, 틀니는 저작 기능을 개선하고 얼굴 형태를 지지하며, 발음과 자신감을 향상시키도록 설계되어 있습니다. 올바른 사용법과 정기적인 치과 검진을 통해 틀니는 수년 동안 사용할 수 있으며, 치아가 없는 환자에게 매우 효과적인 치료 옵션이 될 수 있습니다.
